NASA's X-Hab Challenge

The eXploration Systems and Habitation Academic Innovation Challenge (X-Hab) is a program where university students (usually senior and graduate students) get the opportunity to work on hands-on projects that support NASA's goals and missions. These projects have typically been about general knowledge gaps and technology limitations, but over the past few years NASA has opened up the options to allow more elaborate deep space exploration and habitation topics. NASA benefits from the amount of novel ideas students can come up with and in return students get important hands-on experiences and prototyping skills. This also allows students to work with faculty experts as well as experts at NASA while receiving ample funding to find the best solution to their proposed topic.

Our team has received funding from NASA's X-Hab Challenge to investigate the possibility and the concept of a robotic habitat maintenance system.
